Lambchop’s Kurt Wagner wanted to create a planetary stage environment to complete the band’s 2006 European Damaged tour.
The loose concept was “alien home movies.” I collaborated with filmmaker James Clauer to create a series of surreal montages, with footage ranging from baseball games to fish to archival Americana film. These compositions were then projected onto five weather balloons, each balloon holding a world of its own. The homespun celestial experience evoked the magical realism in Lambchop’s music. A DVD of the tour entitled No Such Silence was released on City Slang Records.
